UD 99: Moving Image Archive

A collection of film, animation and other experiments in online moving image:

So Many Things to Consider
By Sandye Wilson
UD's first experiment in online motion picture, this short film documents a single woman's introspection on love and men in modern day. So Many Things to Consider was selected for the 1996 34th New York Film Festival and the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.

Footprints and The Film of Her
By Bill Morrison
Two short films of seven, evolved by heavily editing old archived stock footage, Footprints and The Film of Her takes a breathtaking view at evolution itself—both in humanity and film. Bill Morrison has received honors in the London Film Festival and the Chicago Film Festival, among others, and his work is included in the Museum of Modern Art's Permanent collection.

Breakdance
By Khoi Uong
Breakdance is an experiment in made-for-web moving image, using the animation application Flash, by Macromedia. Taking the user through the history and current applications of Breakdancing, Khoi Uong has created an interactive experience, which was recently nominated for the Web's One Show Award, and has won a Gold Metal from the Art Directors Club of New York.

Worm and Love Story
By James Paterson
Another experiment using Flash, these animations are imbued with the innocence of child-like art and expression. Eighteen year-old James Paterson is a growing presence on the Web for both his technical experimentation and artistic sensibility.

Grijs
By Christophe Van Rompeay
Belgian filmmaker Christophe Van Rompaey takes a look at the possible psychological repercussions of working within the mundane routine of big business (or the possible repercussions of having an evil opposite.)

The God's of Times Square
By Richard Sandler
Originally a full length documentary, Richard Sandler (who has been documenting the religious fanatics of Times Square for over ten years) re-edited a short version of his work for Urban Desires. Our presentation of this film recently won a One Show Award, and a Communication Arts Award.

Boiling Point
By Alex Ryan and Henry Astor
This low budget, highly praised short claymation film reveals the horror of chopping, slicing and nearly eating humanly mobile vegetables – unless they chop you first. Created on the foundation of free contribution, Henry Astor surmises that this could possibly be, "the least expensive animation ever made."

Safteyman
By Rodney Ascher
This digitally produced animation was originally created for Saturday Night Live. Safteyman never made it to prime time, but it did make it to our site! Ascher's films have been screened in festivals across America, including ResFest Digital Film Festival, Dfilm Digital Film Festival, and the New York Underground Film Festival.
