What it is: The trend in shampoos is to combine hair treatments with a relaxing massage. The salon I visited in Manhattan combined shampoo, treatment, hair-cut, and manicure in a one hour session.
How it felt: Recently I put myself in the hands of an expert shampoo/massager at Vartali in Manhattan who spent 15 awesome minutes kneading my scalp, neck, and shoulders while applying some herbal/oil concoctions. I sat under a heating cap for a few more minutes to let it soak in. After my hair was washed I was whisked to the stylist who looked over my locks and suggested a trim and blow-dry.
