Hate (La Haine)
In "Hate", Matthieu Kassovitz's raw and scorching look at 24 hours in suburban Paris' housing projects where violence, drugs, and alienation are the way of life. Three friends -- A black, a white Jew, and an Arab -- wander around, vandalize, crash parties, and otherwise hang out as anger against the racist police mounts to a frightening pitch. With jazzily stylish black and white cinematography and electrifying performances, be prepared to need a stiff drink afterwards.
