For my trouble, I received the requisite
blank stare (provoked by all questions
these non-questioning days) and was told
by the barkeep who'd been counting his
empties, no, the music could not be
turned down.
I asked, "WHY NOT?"
"ATTRACTS CUSTOMERS,"
he told me.
I looked around. We were the only customers.
"WELL, IT'S NOT ATTRACTING
ME," I countered.
The bartender shrugged, went back to his
empties.
