2. Touchy Feely
Kyle: Having spewed all of these mystical worlds that (in a CD-ROM) remain largely virtual, it must be rewarding to have the physical mainfestation of the book.
Rand: It is a real thing, like, cool, I get to hold this.
Robyn: That is what makes it really special, as far as the packaging. But we would like to do some of that with additional artifacts from Myst, because it is so neat to have it real.
Kyle: Absolutely. I've been walking around with this under my arm and geeks from all over say, "Hey, is that a book?" "Is that a book from Myst?" "Hey, what is that? Where'd you get it?"
Robyn: Yeah, or a special edition of real materials, that kind of thing.
Rand: We actually talked to Hyperion after they printed it. Our dad used to work in the printing business and he said they used to put scent in the inks. We could put a musty smell in the ink and you'd open it up and it'd smell like a musty book.
Rand: We'd like to do more of that, we are real interested in doing more of that.
Kyle: Scent-o-rama?
[LAUGHTER]
Rand: Well....no...
Robyn: Yeah, we've got do that on the next one. It's a little attachment, you know...
Kyle: Scratch and sniff monitor frames.
[LAUGHTER]
Rand: Please scratch number 15.... But even with merchandising, we've got this big opportunity but we've been slow to act because we want to make stuff that we'd like to have. Cool little artifacts, that would be neat.
