This S&M murder mystery has been described as The Story of O for the '90s. Personally, I'd be just a little disillusioned if O. sprang to life and started saying things like "Male-bashing is not my métier. I've had good relationships with men." But masochists probably do say things like that these days. Topping from Below has some mundane moments. But, due to its dog-eat-gal passages, I wouldn't tell a man to give this book to a woman -- unless he has a reputation for being a milquetoast and wants to shock her.
